for starting one of the SoCal fires. Apparently he heard about the fires in the news so he smartly decided he should start one of his own. His fire luckily was minor compared to the rest but still destroyed 21 homes. Should he be charged and how much should he be punished? And should the parents be responsible for millions of dollars worth of damages?

It is a messed up world when juveniles don't have the rights that adults do but can go through this "tried as an adult" crap. Of course he should be charged, but within what would fit his age. Still need to decide on whether the parents should be held responsible.

well according to the media, they're saying he was too young to understand what he was doing and did not intend to create a huge wildfire out of control. Hell how is a kid supposed to know about the Santa Ana's and dry weather, and combustability. He was playing w/ matched bad idea... but in law, it comes down to intent... You wouldn't take the electrical company to court over the downed powerlines that started another fire. It was an accident, not arson... if he gets jailtime... i will lose all my faith in humanity (not that it isn't gone already)

I'd give him probation or house arrest. And make sure the parents teach the kid some disipline.
(Why the hell was the kid playing OUTSIDE with MATCHES? Geez, give the guy some games, perhaps he won't be so destructive...)
