Decided to view this on YouTube, as the "rap opera" (moreover a rap serial) is my favorite parody in Weird Al's new album, "Trapped in the Drive Thru".
Two completely sad, but true facts:
-"Trapped in the Closet" is 10 times funnier.
-Weird Al is a way better storyteller than R. Kelly
R. Kelly jumps around way too much, with plot points so contrived (infidelity is the main subject) that at some point you have to wonder how seriously he's actually taking this. He seems to be very proud of his work, though, and using only Wikipedia as a source, he thinks he's a genius.
If he manages to get a deal for a "Trapped in the Closet" show, I just might have incentive to go to the TV.
Each "part" is a 3-4 minute song, told in a very rambling manner, all of which conversational but sung. This is left intact for the music videos I watched on YouTube, with the lip-synching being one of the first unintentionally hilarious things about it. It then ends with a "cliffhanger", at first with some legitimate (even if obvious) occurrences, but then dumbs down to introducing something so highly random you can't actually believe Kelly took this seriously.
What people don't like to admit about vanity products is, while at times they can be very tedious and infuriating, sometimes they can by downright hilarious, as "Trapped in the Closet" proves!
In addition to the contrived storyline that comes out of a gangsta rap soap opera and, eventually, out of left field, R. Kelly is an inconsistent storyteller. He cannot decide whether he wants it to be first person, third person, or if he wants to break the fourth wall.
I highly recommend this hysterical piece of musical crap , but will not rate it until I can decide whether I should give "*" or "****".
