Selected from a list as provided by my Contemp Lit teacher, this 212-page novel is easily the best I've ever had to read in a literature class.
Thoroughly fascinating, its alien invasion and subsequent laws forced unto mankind resemble what the Book of Revelation predicted of the AntiChrist... and I'm sure that mirror was quite intentional, based on an early plot twist which is alluded to later. It takes a turn for the extremely bizzare, and even as the book itself proclaims, completely unexpected.
Don't read summaries (certainly not the one inside the edition I have, which reveals all the way up to 170 pages) and just pick this one up.
[No film adaptations of the book have been released, though there are a number of works influenced... namely "The End of Evangelion"]
