I'd like to discuss here the feasibility of making a horror movie. I like the saying Eric told me. "There's a fine line between horror and comedy." Let's face it: We don't have the budget for gore. Hell, we don't even have the capabilities of having more than five actors on set at once. We also have censorship. We can't swear too much, we can't be too gorey, and there's a limit to some of the plot content as well. I'd like to hear some ideas for possible projects in this genre, whether or not it's a good idea.
My concept: Open with the first killing. Our murderer tells his reason for madness to his victim. Suddenly our killer wakes up from the nightmare, he bursts from sleep, gasping for air. But he is not in his bed. The murderer was sleeping where the murder happened. Soon the boy receives a call from his friend. The victim has died of a heart attack, a sudden death, slumped over and died. His parents are devastated. The murderer (let's call him Robert) and the friend (let's call him Eddie) talk, but Rob knows before Eddie has to say the cause of death, or what even happened.
The next day the friends talk it over. They're all together and try and find out exactly what happened. Perhaps it was just a medical condition, maybe he killed himself and it's just a cover up. No, no. Eddie says he suspects Robert. He seemed to know something, knew before it was said. Robert denies it, says it was chance, that he might be sensitive to these kinds of things. The friends deny it, say he wouldn't hurt anyone, that he doesn't have that capability. That friends should trust each other and that your friends, trust you in return.
We follow Eddie home, he talks with Kennedy about the situation. Eddie, into the occult, tells Kennedy of how it's not unheard of for minds in turmoil can have violent impact on those closely connected. Kennth is doubtful, a little angry too. He wants things to return to the way they were. Eddie cautions him, that perhaps Robert's mind is dangerous, that something is wrong and that there could be other victims. Kenneth says Eddie is crazy, that he's not helping and should take the death of a friend seriously. But Eddie has his own madness, says he has to think about this and come up with a plan of protection.
Robert calls Kenneth later that day to see what he was talking with Eddie about. Again, Kennth is angry that his friends are too wrapped up in the mysterious circumstances and not the death. When someone dies the matter is serious, the matter is grave and requires attention. Kenneth calls Sam, a good friend, about what to do, but we don't hear that conversation. Instead we learn that Eddie is trying to identify the cause of Robert's sudden possession. Eddie believes it's black karma, some sort of demon. Something evil that's taken hold of him and using his mind for evil purposes. He explains this to Robert excitedly, that he's found a real live paranormal phenomenon! Robert asks how to be cured. Eddie mysteriously says that he isn't quite sure at the moment. Kenneth confronts the three the next day when all the friends are together. Sam and Kenneth say that more time needs to be spent together, to learn what is really right. So that they can become better friends beyond just busy talk. They need to all get used to the fact that death is serious and that they need to grow up now. Eddie is vehement, he is certain that dark forces are at work and calls together a seance. They will exorcise the demons from Robert. Robert just wants some herbal tea and cough drops.
Reluctantly the group attends, interested in the free food that Eddie is providing. The seance is unsuccessful, no demons are exorcised. The boys go to sleep and wake up the next afternoon in the clothes they attended in. The house is silent. That's as far as I've gotten.
Disclaimer: Just because I wrote this so extensively doesn't mean we have to do it for sure. I'd love to hear your ideas before I get as detailed as dialogue.
