...and start pitching in for the HD format war. My initial guess, HD-DVD, seems to have been proven wrong, though I might buy one of those combo discs next time I feel there's a filmmaker who needs the cash. Blu-ray appears to be the clear winner according to the statistics.
Thus, my first $17 investment in the HD format war, a Blu-ray edition of "Big Fish". We'll see how this turns out in a couple of years, but the midget-sized blue case among all the comparably-fat and oversized DVD cases is definitely a conversation starter.
I'm guessing the guys at Fry's were laughing when I walked out of the store. Okay, it was an expensive joke, but a good one. Thanks to Netflix, I generally don't have the time to watch my DVD purchases anyway.

Nice. My guess is that Tank's PS3 comes with a Blu-Ray drive, so I guess we could mooch (with his permission of course)... On a web-related note, why is there suddenly an ad bar IN THE MIDDLE OF CONVERSATIONS??? That is really annoying...

I find it annoying, too, but there's nothing I can do about it.
Back to the original discussion topic, I probably should have invested in something that would have appealed more to Tank (unless "Big Fish" so happens to be one of his favorite movies, then awesome). What would be interesting is not just to see whether there's a difference between Blu-Ray and DVD on an HDTV set, but if one actually looks better than the other on a *standard* set. I have the movie on both formats, so it's only a matter of hooking two things up to the same set and switching.

"Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" is making it to Blu-Ray on 8/7. If there's only one copy sold, it's gonna be bought by me- this is gonna look so fantastic in HD.
