Yeah, this weekend seems to be jam-packed. If there is shooting on Sunday, it'll be very sparse- and by your notice, it won't be any of your scenes. I'm predicting this will get done with two or three more weekends, but I think the remainder of your scenes only really require one more... but it's with a crapload of people, so we might be able to pull off even more scenes than planned.
That's if that session is more productive than the last, and things don't break down and go crazy like last time.

Though I'm cancelling Saturday's session due to a lit project, I'm quite pleased with the footage shot. As much as during the day I dread the day we have to film this again, every time I look at it I look forward to churning out more.
The overlay during Joseph's monologue works like I wanted it to, though I would like the transparency to vary depending on the area. Online compression can also be problematic with this scene. With only the monologue and none of the sound from the flashback footage, one shot that I thought would be a problem turned out not to be one at all. A trick from Shyamalan's handbook- when in doubt, turn off the sound.
Both in editing and even cinematography, which I was dissatisfied with when the shoot ended, I feel are even better than before, thanks to the usage of shot lists. Every cut is motivated, and cropping down to 1.66:1 proved to be a worthwhile technique. The usual advantage of reframing shots is there, and they look cramped like I want them to be.
Would loved to have seen Scene 8 with the other four shots before it, and there's always the hope of that footage being salvaged when my camera gets back from the repairman (by the 7th)... so it just might be there.
Overall, through that hectic, problematic session, we squeezed 2:13 of useable footage (including the overlay played during the monologue). I don't know if I should wait to see if the other footage is saved, or if I should just send the workprint as of now for everyone to look at.

My Optura60 is back, as well as the footage.
All of it is intact. I figured there were a couple of sections I'd have wanted to reshoot anyway, but am still glad none of it got wrecked. Being how it worked with "The Suite", I might be able to color-time the Optura60 footage with the Optura20 (the oversimplified explanation: The Optura60 has more color saturation).

[the first half of this whole compositing business is in the production journal: inakamichi-movie.tripod.com/prodjournal.html ) Tested out how the airsoft BBs composited. The complicated stuff about doing this by interlace field will be taken care of later, but there's plenty that we can get away with... since the BBs are nearly invisible when composited on top of the originally-shot video in motion (in freeze-frame, you can see a very slight disturbance in the brightness, within the thin area the BB shoots through). This test wasn't entirely wasted, though- I'll still do the compositing stuff because it's fun (and very few frames are involved), but I found what really sells it is the sound effect of the gun firing! Combined with the color grading being done on the composited image itself, and the noise applied when recompressing the video, it should be just like the real thing.

Today defintely was a "Holy $#!+" day. I'll edit the footage right when I can, and post production journal and dailies for the cast AND WHOEVER ASKS FOR THEM.

Okay, it's sent, though in really crappy compression quality.
One day when I'm not so tired I'll be able to post all this into a production journal or something. 'Till then I'm stuck with the basics...
Tomorrow's filming will either be extremely simple or extremely complicated, depending on how the scenes go and whether or not my brain decides to spazz out in the middle of thinking. I know what I want for today and for Wednesday.

I do not know when the next available date for filming will be, but will update as soon as possible. Meanwhile, I'll need to know if yours and Alex's prop guns are readily available- I have no idea how I allowed them to be in the shoot since they're not readily available in my trunk like everything else, but I cannot afford to reshoot the two scenes just to preserve continuity with other guns.

Out of curiousity, do i have any other parts in this movie?
and the obvious question...when will this movie be finished?

I've got to revise my plans for this movie; I don't want to venture on another project like this without signatures on papers, because who knows what I'll do if I'm forced to pull the film.
(oh yeah. That's right. Kill people.)
